Standard German kit:
First couple guys with lugers, with 47 round snail magazines. Back of the squad has the potato mashers.
Crawl up to the wire, wait for the mortars to hit your objective, flanking OBJs, and support trench. Breach the wire while mortars are impacting.
Upon a signal, like a flare, the mortars on the OBJ lift but the others keep firing, to isolate the OBJ.
The key was to get into the trench before the enemy in the dugouts realized the mortars had lifted and crawled out of their dugouts.
The idea is clear some trench real estate, then yell into the dugouts for the pax trapped in them to come out and kamerad. If they dont, throw in a rock or two and they'll figure how pointless it is and come out. If tehy want to be stubborn a grenade in a dugout will leave no survivors due to the overpressure.
It would be quicker to capture some able bodied rather than smash some guys head in and have to drag him back.
I could see how a mace would be better than a bolt action but a 47 round 9mm solves a lot of problems.
