This incredible solar powered steam engine was built in the early 1890's in Pasadena California by a farmer to pump water for his ostrich farm! He must have been quit a character back then! The "Sun Motor" was constructed with 1,800 mirrors 2 feet long by 3 inches wide and was supported on a light iron framework. In the focus of the mirrors was a boiler, 13 feet 6 inches long, painted black. The boiler held about 100 gallons of water, which was fed automatically. It was capable of pumping 1,400 gallons of water per minute. It seems that nothing is new when it comes to alternate energy.
